REGISTERED NURSE, PERMANENT PART TIME
 
Pine Meadow Nursing Home is a non profit 64 bed Long Term Care facility seeking a Registered Nurse for permanent part time, rotating shifts with 15 hours biweekly.  Casual positions are also available.  Wages are commensurate based on experience.
 
Reporting to the Director of Care, the RN will enhance the effective management and quality of nursing practice in keeping with the Standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario, Long Term Care Standards and Pine Meadow’s Standards.
 

Responsibilities
  • Ensure resident care is provide with established nursing standards and principles, physicians’ orders and administrative policies, as well as, observe, report and record vital signs, symptoms and conditions of residents, and initiate remedial health measures where appropriate. Assure observance of required techniques in nursing care.
  • Assess residents and develop, implement, review and evaluate resident care plans. Monitor residents’ health, notes changes in condition and assess need for referral to doctors; processes and implement physician orders.
  • Organize and direct functions and activities related to provision of care to residents including restorative care and palliative care as required. Interprets and implements established policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Plan, direct, supervise and evaluate the work of nursing and personal care staff assigned to the unit. Orient and train new personnel and may participate in in-service education. Monitor performance and conduct performance appraisal and refers problems to the Director of Care.
 
Qualifications
  • Possesses a certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of nursing and health care practices, as well as knowledge in Infection Control Practices.
  • Effective human relation skills and demonstrated commitment to working with seniors.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively are essential.

Job Description

 Personal Support Workers (PSW) are invited to apply for casual positions to work at our 64 bed long-term care home located in Northbrook.
 Under the direction of the Registered Staff the PSW provides direct personal and nursing care to residents so as to fulfil the physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual needs of residents in accordance to home polices, procedure and work routines.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
  •  Assists in providing direct care for residents; assists with ambulation, feeding, bathing and grooming.
  • Encourages participation in activity programs by assisting residents to and from activities.
  • Assists with meal service and nourishment delivery to residents and provides feeding assistance as required.
  • Provides emotional and social support to residents/families including palliative care.
  • Adheres to established departmental polices and procedures regarding documentation, quality assurance, fire, safety, environment and infection control.
  • Consults with and informs supervisor of unit activities, needs and matters related to resident care.
  • Participates in care conferences and documentation related to resident care plans.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Completed a PSW Program that meets the appropriate standards established by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, the National Association of Career Colleges, or the Ontario Community Support Association and must be a minimum of 600 hours in duration (including class time and practical experience time)
  • Nursing Experience in long-term care required
  • Knowledge and experience in care planning systems and documentation required
  • Mentally and physically able to perform duties as assigned
  • Ability to communicate positively with other staff, residents and families
  • Demonstrates empathy, concern and interest in providing quality care and service to residents
  • Demonstrates organizational skills and ability to complete assignments in a timely fashion
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to provide resident care in accordance with application legislation, job routines, nursing care plans, ability to read and write English and understand verbal and written instructions in English.
